Egyptian Cat Paperweight
*TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK*

The cat was a popular household pet in ancient Egypt. Many animals were held sacred in ancient Egypt, but the cat was revered above all others. Cats were the representatives of the goddess Bastet, the special protectress of the Pharaoh himself. Bastet was also the goddess of fertility and the guardian of the home against disease and evil spirits. It is believed that modern cats are descendants of ancient Egyptian cats. This small but splendid paperweight is a reproduction of a figurine from the Ptolemaic period (about 303–30 B.C.) in the Egyptian collection of the Brooklyn Museum.

Made of pewter plated with 24-karat gold. 2" high x 1.2" wide x 2.25" long
