Hiroshige's series "One Hundred Views of Edo", a collection of woodblock prints, has had a lasting influence on Western art, especially the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements. The Japanese gardens in these prints inspired Claude Monet, and Vincent van Gogh who owned several of Hiroshige's prints depicting plum trees in bloom.

In keeping with his artistic heritage, Hiroshige illustrated city life through the changing of the seasons, traditional holidays, and the daily life of the citizens of Edo (now modern day Tokyo).

Selected from the Brooklyn Museum's edition of the series, the thirty prints in this book of postcards epitomize Hiroshige's compositions.
