In conjunction with the exhibition, this handsome catalog offers the first comprehensive and critical examination of the French painter James Tissot's series of 350 watercolors depicting the Gospels. This entire set of exquisite watercolors entered the Brooklyn Museum's collection by public subscription in 1899. After many visits to the Holy Lands, Tissot dedicated himself to a 10 year project of illustrating the life of Christ -the New Testament.
