Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties
This beautifully illustrated catalogue depicts the work of 68 painters, sculptors, and photographers who explored a new modern realism reflective of the years between World War I and the Great Depression. The American artists of the Jazz Age created images of liberated modern bodies and the changing urban-industrial environment. They struggled to express the experience of a dramatically remade modern world, demonstrating their faith in the potential of youth and in the sustaining value of beauty. The Youth and Beauty exhibition presents 140 works by artists that include Thomas Hart Benton, Imogen Cunningham, Charles Demuth, Edward Hopper, Gaston Lachaise, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Luigi Lucioni, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Edward Weston.
