William Morris 'Sweet Briar' Card Case
William Morris (English, 1834-96), believed that art should find expression in utilitarian objects that could be enjoyed in everyday life. The Sweet Briar pattern motif on this picture frame is adapted from one of forty-nine wallpapers he designed. The original can be seen in a Morris and Co. wallpaper sample book in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum.
