Soul of a Nation: Art In the Age of Black Power Smokehouse Associates Tote
- $9.00 for Members
Smokehouse Associates was a group of four artists who collectively created community-oriented public art projects in Harlem; with each of their projects, they desired to encourage urban renewal by transforming shared space through vibrant, geometric abstract murals and sculptures. Active between 1968-70, Smokehouse Associates was conceived and established by William T. Williams and included Melvin Edwards, Guy Ciarcia and Billy Rose. Although the murals no longer exist, vibrant photographs - like this one- constitute the lasting legacy of this creative and inclusive project.
