Iggy Pop Life Class

Twenty-two artists gathered at the New York Academy of Art on Sunday, February 21, 2016, for a life drawing class with a unique model: American rock legend Iggy Pop.
The class was conceived by artist Jeremy Deller and organized by the Brooklyn Museum. Posing nude on a very different kind of stage—and in stark contrast to his energetic live persona—Pop was drawn in a series of classical poses by a mixture of students, practicing artists, and retirees, aged collectively from 19 to 80.
Iggy Pop Life Class includes drawings by all participating artists—107 works in all—alongside documentation of the process and comparative works from our collection. An introduction by Deller precedes an interview between himself and Pop where the musician candidly discusses his life in music, his engagement with art, and his persona as one of rock and roll's most enduring bodies. These texts are supported by essays on Iggy Pop as a performer and the practice of life drawing in art history and in the studio.
