Althea Gibson: The Story Of Tennis' Fleet-of-Foot Girl by Megan Reid, illustrated by Laura Freeman.

A spirited picture book biography about Althea Gibson, the first black Wimbledon, French, and U.S. Open tennis champion, from debut author Megan Reid and Coretta Scott King Honor–winning illustrator Laura Freeman. Althea Gibson: The Story of Tennis’ Fleet-of-Foot Girl chronicles this trailblazing athlete’s journey—and the talent, force of spirit, and energy that made it possible for her to break barriers and ascend to the top of the tennis world.

“Reid’s story flows with the grace and power of Gibson herself. The expressive and exuberant digital artwork mirrors the tennis champ’s liveliness.”

This book includes a free signed bookplate when purchased from November 14 to December 31, 2020.

Megan Reid is the author of ALTHEA GIBSON: The Story of Tennis' Fleet-of-Foot Girl, as well as non-fiction for adults, middle-graders, and a forthcoming title on the mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani. After receiving her M.A. in English Literature, Meg worked as a book editor at Simon and Schuster before joining FX Networks as a development executive, working on drama, comedy, animated, and limited television series.

A graduate of Northern Arizona University and The Ohio State University, her writing has been featured on Bustle, Elle, Refinery29, The Believer, LitHub, and FastCompany.

She lives with her (tiny, very silly) dog, Luna in Brooklyn.
